How to Clear Dandruff

How to Clear Dandruff

Dandruff is what you have when there are white flakes on your scalp that fall on your shoulders when you comb or your hair or scratch your scalp. It is a result of the shedding of skin cells from your scalp which flake off and they die.

Dandruff can be caused by a number of things like Seborrheic Dermatitis (an inflammatory skin disorder affecting the scalp, face, and torso), frequent shampooing, hair product sensitivity and most commonly a very dry scalp. This annoying condition affects over half of the worlds post puberty population, so you are not alone.

Dandruff Remedies

tea-tree-oil1

Tea Tree Oil

This popular essential oil has scientifically proven anti fungal properties and is widely used to combat dandruff. A few drops to the scalp as part of a hot oil treatment before cowashing is very effective. A few drops added to your normal spritzing mix will also relieve the itch commonly experienced with dandruff.

Salt Scrub

Shake a little salt onto your scalp, rub it in with your fingertips as you would with a facial scrub for a few minutes, and then cowash. Your scalp will feel rejuvenated as this also enhances blood flow which = increased hair growth.

Apple Cider Vinegar Rinseacv

Mix equal parts ACV and water, and use as a hair rinse. Leave it on for about 10-15 minutes and the rinse off, or apply it after cowashing and leave it in. ACV is a great fungicide, and works to balance the pH of your hair among other great effects which is an added bonus!

aloeveragel

Aloe Vera Gel

The Gel from the Aloe Leaf is known to slow down rapid skin cell proliferation which really slows down the flaking cells that cause dandruff. Apply to the scalp for 15 minutes and then wash normally. This should be done weekly for about 6-8 weeks.

Extra Tips

If you have dry skin, you’re probably prone to dandruff and should take extra care to avoid harsh hair products. Try to Deep Condition weekly to maintain health levels of moisture, and use as many natural products as possible as they are more gentle on skin.
