Natural Hair Hot Oil Treatment

Natural Hair Hot Oil Treatment

Dry Hair? You are not alone!

A lot of us Natural girls on this side of the world have major issues with dryness. The combination of humidity and our Hair Type (usually 4C) doesn’t smile at all. Every once in a while, your hair gets strung out and frizzy, and you need some added moisture. This is where Hot Oil Treatments come in.

A Hot Oil Treatment is a method of Deep Conditioning that delivers a big moisture boost to the Hair strands using just oils. The method involves applying oils at high (not boiling!) temperatures to the hair for a little while before washing them off.

Pour some water into a small pot, and place it on a burner.
Place 2-3 teaspoons of your oil of choice in a plastic bowl or container, and place the container in the heating water. You could choose to combine different oils, but don’t over-do it.
Take the container out just before the water boils.
Part your hair into 4 or more sections, and apply the Oil to your hair
You may choose to wrap your hair in a towel, or wear a plastic cap.
Leave it in for 15-20 minutes, and then wash it off properly
Enjoy your moisture boost

Most people recommend that you do this every few months. I do it every 2-3 months. You could infuse the oils with certain herbs to get even more benefits, by simply heating up the oil with the herbs inside it (Suggestions are Hemp, Onion, Ginger, and Cucumber).

Hot Oil Infusion

Heat the oil on the lowest heat setting you have, so that it will take a while for the water to boil.
Take the oil out of the water just as it starts to boil.
Strain the herbs out of the oil.
Leave the oil to sit overnight to increase the strength of the infusion.
Apply as Hot Oil Treatment.

You could make a large batch to keep, and use it from time to time. Recommended oils are Avocado, Coconut and Olive oils, as they penetrate the Hair Shaft, giving added moisture.
